Before we finish up our study of the Little House books, I wanted the students to have some firsthand experience of pioneer life so we took a field trip to Dallas Heritage Village. The students went on “History Hunts,” self-guided tours of the park where signs or historic guides gave them information about specific sites. We visited a log cabin farmhouse, the home of a railroad station manager and a one-room schoolhouse. The students learned such things as how to grind corn into cornmeal, how laundry was done before electricity and how yarn is made from wool.

Here are detailed pictures of what the students saw and learned!
