We have been studying the Little House series of novels. We finished Little House on the Prairie and have just begun On The Banks of Plum Creek. The students love to hear the story read to them and often beg me to read longer than I’d planned to. Srila Prabhupada urged us to engage in simple living and high thinking.
Discussions about the Little House books often tie back to this theme. We’ve also been able to make many cross-curricular connections with our study of American and Texas history coinciding with the reading of the novels. The 4th graders are studying Texas History and the 5th graders are studying American History. Both studies discuss the pioneer days, tying into the time period of the Little House series.
